  4. The Wiseman Speaks:

Never found a more apropriate set of circumtances, to relay that expression made famous by an unknown actor by the name of Stother Martin in the well known movie, 'Cool Hand Luke':

"WHAT WE'VE GOT HERE...IS A FAILURE TO COMMUNICATE."

Having played College Basketball, having grown up in the good old U.S. of A, and having been able to speak and understand the language, have afforded me the privilege to access the different means of communications related to the game that I feel a sense of passion for.

When Alfred Joel Horford Reynoso tells me he isn't being permitted to participate in the World Basketball tournament qualifier because his team, Atlanta Hawks has prohibited him from playing, I can look at him right up in his face and tell him: "THAT'S NOT TRUE."

The National Basketball Association encourages foreign player to represent their countries, and any basketball team owner is looked upon as an opportunist, amongst his peers, if he places any type of obstacles that will prevent a foreign player from representing his country.

The ideology is that 12 players from the NBA will have to represent the USA running the risk of getting hurt and ruining the chances of his team during the regular NBA season, so, do not be an oportunist and prohibit your player from participating, if one can participate, then the rules must apply equally to all members of the Association.

Alfred Joel Horford Reynoso is today saying 'NO' for a complete, hurtful, and understandably different reason, he's in the middle of a legal entanglement of a lawsuit in the country he loves, and no one has risen a finger to show him the support he morally deserves.

Alfred Joel has, through the years, represented our country with character, conviction, loyalty and an uncommon sense of patriotism while asking for nothing in return for his sacrifices.

In the midst of this lawsuit against him, not Rafael Uribe, not Eduardo Najri, not Luis Mejia, have uttered a word to show his support for Alfred Joel while the entire country, instead, ridicule the fact that he is a millionaire whom is refusing to pay out an insignificant few thousands of dollars.

I understand the resentments Alfred Joel is feeling, and I'm affraid we might've lost him forever from ever wearing our tri-color uniforms, he always responded positively to the calls of our nation, and when he needed us, we failed to answer his call, we didn't have his back.
